Meet The Team

At the heart of our fishmongers is a dedicated crew who do more than serve seafood — we go out and catch it ourselves. From early mornings at sea to preparing the freshest cuts for our counter, every member of the team plays a part in bringing the best of the ocean straight to you. We’re proud to be a local business built on trust, tradition, and a love for honest, fresh fish — and we’d love for you to get to know the faces behind it all.

The Office

Jim Partridge

In 1957, as a young lad, Jim learnt to fish on Shoreham Beach. He was soon found to be selling his “Catch of the Day” from his bicycle basket. Jim established Monteum in 1974, and for a few years we operated from the back of his small house on Shoreham Beach. In 1983 Jim bought the quayside at Fisherman’s Wharf and gave Monteum a new home (and his family back theirs). Jim is an active committee member of Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (IFCA) as well as the Shellfish Association of Great Britain Crustacean committee.

Pete Huxtable

Pete joined forces with Jim Partridge in 1981 creating a dynamic duo and forming the backbone that has remained Monteum to this day. Pete runs pretty much everything. Back in 2005 Pete was awarded an MBE by HRH Her Majesty The Queen for his work and devotion to the RNLI and Shoreham Lifeboat. We could not be prouder to have him dominating our helm.

Alex Partridge

Jim’s younger daughter joined the team in 2012 after becoming a parent herself. Steadily learning the ropes she can be found working in the office or being hands on in La Poissonnerie.

Abi

When she’s not working, Abi enjoys walking in the country, clay shooting, fishing and surfing.

Paul

Paul is a full time Fishmonger and joint Manager. He also started his career as a butcher but moved over to fish when he commenced with Monteum back in 1999. Paul keeps us nicely in line.

Aidan

Aidan is one of our full time fish mongers. In his spare time Aidan likes to play football, read comics and listen to music.

Dave

Dave is one of our fishmongers, he prepares, cleans, fillets and guts fish and helps visitors get the fish they require. In his spare time Dave loves to fish and find gold using his metal detector.

Harry

Harry works behind the scenes as onshore manager of our fish department. He is also the skipper of the Royal Rebel. In his spare time he loves fishing.

Siri

Siri is the crew aboard the Royal Rebel working with Harry who is the skipper. The Royal Rebel goes to sea for lobsters, crabs and whelks. In his spare time Siri takes his boat out fishing and helps manage his restaurant, Kanok Thai in Preston Street Brighton.

Ryan

Ryan works around our yard and is one of our drivers. Ryan, known as ‘streaky’, enjoys fishing in his spare time.

Rupert

Rupert is Jim's grandson and works in the fish shop on a Saturday, fileting fish and taking orders from customers

Chris

Chris first worked on the Royal Escape in 1974. He then left Monteum and became an engineer. He re-joined Monteum in 2012 and we use his engineering skills for maintenance.
